Basic concepts of electroplating

　　Electroplating technology,also known as electrodeposition,is one of the main methods to obtain metal coatings on the surface of materials.Under the action of DC electric field,the circuit composed of anode and cathode in electrolyte solution(plating solution)makes the metal ions in the solution deposit on the surface of cathode plated parts(see Fig.1-3-1).

　　Electroplating is one of many surface treatment technologies with a long history,relatively mature process and low cost,which plays an important role in the development of various industries of the national economy.Especially with the development of modern industry and technology,many product parts will encounter various very special working conditions in the process of use,such as harsh corrosive environment,wear and friction environment,special fine hole(computer circuit board)battery,etc.,which puts forward higher requirements for the functionality of electroplating layer on the surface of parts,such as high corrosion resistance,high temperature oxidation resistance,good conductivity High hardness,high wear resistance and antifriction,uniformity of micro machining and some other special physical and chemical properties.It is hoped that the special magnetic properties of the plating layer and the surface sterilization properties of the semiconductor parts can be obtained.

　　Therefore,obtaining functional films by electrical technology has become one of the key research directions of Modern Applied Electrochemistry workers.Moreover,obtaining various functional film materials through it has become one of the important technologies for the application of functional coating materials in industry.
